Djuke vom Vilstaler Land: more than a World Champion
Emilio Marín Moreno and Rubén Batanete ·
Introduction
Djuke vom Vilstaler Land was born on 16 June 2002, measuring 66 cm and weighing 51 kg. He was bred by Harald Grobmann and Michael Stuckenberger and later exported to the United States, where he was owned by Evie Lynn of the Power von Evman kennel.
The vom Vilstaler Land kennel was founded in the early 1990s in Moosburg, near Munich, and began breeding in 1990 after acquiring its first females, among them Yessi von der Mauth and Ubrina vom Haus Winter, the latter Djuke's grandmother.
Over the years the kennel produced several outstanding dogs in Germany, among them Muck vom Vilstaler Land (Bundessieger 1999 and Klubjugendsieger 1997) and Mona vom Vilstaler Land (Klubjugendsiegerin 1997). This is particularly significant, as having two dogs from the same kennel win Klubjugendsieger and Klubjugendsiegerin at the same show is exceptional.
An achievement of this kind had only one precedent, in 1974, when the KJS titles went to Astor and Andra vom Fusse der Eifel.
It happened again in 1992, when Graf and Face von der Teufelsbrücke, half-siblings through their dam, were named KJS. At that same show the Klubsiegerin was Dorle von der Teufelsbrücke, Face's sister from a different litter. Three dogs from the same kennel thus took the main titles of that year. Truly extraordinary.
Today the kennel is continued by Michael Stuckenberger, with dogs such as Samba vom Brandauerweg (Bundessiegerin 2022), Schiwago vom Brandauerweg and Kamillo von der Drachenwand.
Origin and bloodline
Djuke is a son of Cliff von der Königskanzel and Scarlet vom Vilstaler Land.
Cliff was a maternal half-brother of Diva vom Königskanzel, ADRK Klubsiegerin 2003. He earned the VPG 3 and passed the ADRK ZTP. Besides Djuke, he sired other notable dogs such as Kendy Earl Antonius and Sharon dell'Antico Guerriero.
Scarlet earned the VPG 1 and also passed the ADRK ZTP.
Inbreeding and main pedigree lines
Djuke's pedigree shows several ancestors repeated across different generations. One of the most striking features is the presence, on both the sire's and the dam's side, of the littermates Pascha and Panja vom Hegestrauch.
The main inbreedings therefore include:
- Arri vom Hertener Wappen
- 4-4
- Gamba vom Giesenend
- 4-4
- Dingo vom Schwaiger Wappen
- 5,6-5,5,5
- Morris vom Rauchfang
- 5-5
- Frisko vom Schloss Haus Forst
- 5-5
- Bulli vom Hungerbühl
- 6,7,7,8,8,8,8,8,9,9 - 6,7,9,9
The earlier generations also include well-known names from different lines of German breeding, among them Mambo von der Teufelsbrücke, Ben vom Ruppertsbach, Torro vom Zimmerplatz, Face von der Teufelsbrücke, Hero vom Hohegeiss, Ingo vom Fusse der Eifel and Brando vom Hause Neubrand.
Titles and career
Djuke competed in both conformation and work, but it was in conformation that he had an extraordinary career. His main results and titles include:
- ADRK Klubsieger 2006
- IFR World Champion 2008
- Europasieger 2005
- Bundessieger 2005
- Klubsieger of Hungary
- Klubsieger of Switzerland
- Klubsieger of Austria
- ADRK Champion
- VDH Champion
- International Champion
- VPG 3
- ADRK ZTP
- V1, Champion Class, ADRK Klubsieger 2008
- V1, Veteran Class, ADRK Klubsieger 2010
Offspring
Djuke's offspring include several dogs that went on to win titles in Germany, Europe and other countries.
His most notable offspring include:
- Barton Djuke vom Schwartze Treue
- He was Klubsieger of Argentina in 2013 and 2014 and placed V4 at the 2015 ADRK World Family Show.
- Gitano vom Schwaiger Wappen
- He was ADRK Junior Champion and VDH Champion and earned the VPG 3.
- Reni vom Hause Neubrand
- Also out of Oxana vom Hause Neubrand, Reni was ADRK Klubjugendsiegerin 2008 and ADRK Junior Champion, and earned the VPG 1.
- Utah vom Wilden Westen
- Utah was Bundessiegerin 2010 and VDH Champion and earned the IPO 2. As a brood bitch, Utah is also interesting for her offspring. She was the dam of Buffy vom Wilden Westen, mother of Hunter and Harley vom Wilden Westen; of Dakota vom Wilden Westen, ADRK Klubjugendsiegerin 2012; and of Lady vom Wilden Westen, ADRK and VDH Junior Champion.
Later generations
Djuke's influence can also be traced through later generations.
One example is Harley vom Wilden Westen, Djuke's great-granddaughter through the dam's line. Harley was ADRK Klubsiegerin 2015, Klubjugendsiegerin 2014 and Europasiegerin 2016, and earned the IPO 1.
Harley was the dam of Puma vom Wilden Westen, linking this branch with later dogs such as Escobar vom Arius, Giacomo dell'Oplite, Hummer vom Cherniy Kumir and Kurt von den Ellwanger Bergen.
Another descendant of interest is Toti Black Allusion, Djuke's great-grandson through Reni vom Hause Neubrand. Among other titles, Toti became IFR World Champion 2016, as well as ADRK and VDH Champion, with further titles in several countries.
Conclusion
Few dogs can show a career as complete as that of Djuke vom Vilstaler Land.
Over his career he gathered some of the most important titles a Rottweiler can achieve: Bundessieger, Europasieger, ADRK Klubsieger, Klubsieger in several countries, ADRK, VDH and International Champion and, finally, IFR World Champion 2008. Add to that the VPG 3 and the ADRK ZTP, completing a record that combines conformation and work.
Looking at his record, it is particularly striking that he did not win a single major title at one point in his career, but kept collecting awards across countries and organisations, remaining competitive over the years, as shown by his V1 in the Champion Class at the 2008 Klubsieger show and later his V1 in the Veteran Class in 2010.
But perhaps the best way to value Djuke is not only to count his titles but to look at what came after. Several of his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren also won national and international championships and working titles, allowing his genetics to be followed across generations.
That is why, when Djuke vom Vilstaler Land appears in a pedigree, we are looking at a dog who managed to cover virtually every major competition stage of his time in a single career, from the main German titles to the IFR World Championship, and whose offspring extended that presence well beyond his own career.
