Escobar vom Arius, consolidating the legacy of Puma vom Wilden Westen
Emilio Marín Moreno and Rubén Batanete ·
Introduction
Modern Rottweiler breeding demands a precise combination of genetic selection, functionality and breed type, and we see these elements clearly reflected in some outstanding dogs, such as Escobar vom Arius.
This male, born on 3 March 2020, measures 65 cm at the withers and weighs 54 kg. He is owned by Patrick Keller, who also owns his mother, Enja von der Südpfalz.
He was bred by the vom Arius kennel, run by Jovan Vukobrat and his wife Donna, based in Waldfischbach-Burgalben in the Südwestpfalz region (Germany).
The vom Arius breeding programme began in 2013 with the female Mamba vom Kirmesplatz, daughter of Elvis von der Mühlbachstrasse and Gucci vom Kirmesplatz, who had her first litter in 2016.
Since then the kennel has moved on to producing top-level dogs, such as Bowie vom Arius and Dina vom Arius.
Today the kennel has dogs of great international standing, such as Hektor vom Arius (ES’25, WJS’24, EJS’24, ADRK and VDH Junior Champion, IGP 1), Gitte vom Arius and young prospects such as the siblings Jessy and Jonny vom Arius.
It is in this context of genetic excellence and rigorous selection that Escobar vom Arius stands, established as one of the most interesting representatives of this prestigious line.
Origin and bloodline
Escobar vom Arius is the result of a top-level genetic combination, a son of Puma vom Wilden Westen and Enja von der Südpfalz, two dogs who contribute proven conformation quality and working ability.
On the sire's side, Puma vom Wilden Westen is a reference male in the breed with an outstanding record: German Winner 2018, Europajugendsieger 2017, ADRK and VDH Junior and Adult Champion, and V1 in the intermediate class at the 2017 KS. He is also a working dog with IPO 3 and multiple V1 ratings, and has become a highly influential stud in modern Rottweiler breeding.
On the dam's side, Enja von der Südpfalz is a 61 cm female who combines structure and working ability, titled IGP 1 and IFH 2, with the ADRK ZTP. Her tracking performance is especially notable: first place at the ADRK DM FH 2022 and second place in 2021, showing high-quality scenting ability and stable character.
An analysis of his pedigree shows interesting inbreeding on dogs of great historical importance in the breed, such as:
- Mambo von der Crossener Ranch
- 5-4,6,6,7,8
- Jumbo vom Kümmelsee
- 4-6
- Balou vom Silberblick
- 5-7
- Rick von Burgthann
- 6,6,6-5,5,6,7,7,7,7,7
His bloodline also includes other prominent names that have contributed significantly to the development of the modern Rottweiler, such as Harley vom Wilden Westen, Hero von der Tonberger Höhe, Imperator vom Haus Zschammer, Gringo vom Oberpfälzer Wald, Lacky von der Südpfalz and Valeria vom Kressbach, among others.
Overall, the bloodline of Escobar vom Arius reflects genetic planning aimed at consolidating breed type, working ability and structural soundness, combining lines proven in both conformation and sporting performance.
Titles and career
The career of Escobar vom Arius ranks among the most outstanding of his generation, combining top-level success at breed and all-breed shows with working titles that confirm his functionality.
These achievements carry particular weight because they come from events organised by the ADRK and the VDH, considered the most prestigious and demanding bodies in the Rottweiler world.
His record includes:
- Klubsieger ADRK 2022 + BOS
- Weltsieger 2022 + BOB
- Europasieger 2022 + BOB
- Bundessieger 2022 + BOS
- ADRK Champion
- VDH Champion
- German Junior Winner 2021
- ADRK Junior Champion
- VDH Junior Champion
- Multi Sieger
- Multi V1
- IGP 2 and IFH 2
Added to these titles is a fundamental point: complete health tests with excellent results, which strengthens his suitability both as a competitor and as a stud in breeding programmes.
Offspring
Among his most notable offspring are:
- Elan von der Bleichstrasse
- Italian Champion, V at the 2025 KS and IGP 1.
- Gitte vom Arius
- German Jugend Winner 2023, ADRK Junior Champion, V2 Working Class KS 2025, V1 World Dog Show and IGP 1.
- King vom Hause Nuss
- ADRK and VDH Junior Champion.
- Lola von der Südpfalz
- Deichstadtsiegerin + BOB 2025, V1 Open Class International Dog Show 2026.
- Penny von der Blockhütte
- Multi V1, V8 Youth Class at the KS 2024, IGP 1 and ZTP.
- Tabata Buoso da Dovara
- Italian Champion.
He is also present in Spanish breeding through litters such as the “E” litter of Plata del Sur and the “L” litter of l’Alt Serrat, which help spread his genetics in Spain.
Conclusion
His conformation quality, functionality proven through working titles and, above all, his extraordinary record at the most demanding international events establish Escobar vom Arius as one of the great contemporary references of the breed.
His importance, however, goes beyond his own achievements. Escobar belongs to a clearly defined genetic line in which the influence of Puma vom Wilden Westen is decisive.
The fact that many of the most outstanding dogs of the vom Arius kennel descend directly or indirectly from Puma — such as Escobar himself, his daughter Gitte vom Arius, Hektor vom Arius through Hummer vom Cherniy Kumir, or the young Jonny and Jenny vom Arius through Giacomo dell’Olpite — shows a coherent and consolidated breeding line.
Added to this genetic structure is the key role of Dina vom Arius, the true breeding pillar of the kennel, mother of many of these outstanding dogs and a direct descendant of Mamba vom Kirmesplatz, the foundation female of the programme. This continuity in the female line reinforces the consistency and quality of the dogs produced.
In this context, the breeder Jovan Vukobrat deserves credit for his choice of studs, especially the strategic use of descendants of Puma vom Wilden Westen, whose influence has proved highly effective in passing on type, character and working ability.
All of this is even more significant given the relative youth of the vom Arius kennel, which in a short time has reached the highest international level with dogs such as Escobar and Hektor vom Arius.
This success is not a matter of chance but the result of rigorous, coherent and well-directed genetic selection, which points to a promising future for this line within the modern Rottweiler.
