Introduction

Born on 16 February 2016, bred by Edgar Hellmann and Sandra Reck and owned by Klaus Jostock, measuring 66 cm at the withers and weighing 56 kg, he has become one of the most outstanding and influential studs of the last decade.

It is hard today to talk about the great studs of the breed in the last decade without mentioning his name. His own record would already place him among the outstanding dogs of his generation, but it is through his offspring that we see the true scale of his legacy.

His offspring have reached extraordinary placings at some of the most important shows in the world, winning top national and international titles and also proving their working ability.

Even more significant, many of them are also showing extraordinary breeding ability, producing a second generation that continues to stand out at the main competitions.

It is precisely this continuity across generations that makes Puma a particularly important stud in the development of the contemporary Rottweiler.

Origin and bloodline

Puma is a son of Orlando von St. Niclas and Harley vom Wilden Westen, a genetic combination that brought together some of the most important bloodlines of the time.

Orlando became German VDH Champion and achieved notable results at some of the breed's major events, including V2 at the ADRK Klubsieger and V4 at the 2014 IFR. He was also Russian Champion and earned the IGP 1.

Harley had an extraordinary record: ADRK Klubsiegerin and Bundessiegerin in 2015, ADRK Klubjugendsiegerin 2014, International Champion, V1 World Dog Show, Europasieger 2015 and German Winner 2015 and 2017, along with the IGP 1.

Harley's true value, however, was not limited to her show career. As a brood bitch she left offspring of great quality, such as Naomi, Navaro, Poker — Puma's brother — and Puma vom Wilden Westen himself.

The main inbreedings in Puma's pedigree

The main repeated ancestors in Puma's pedigree include:

Rick von Burgthann
5,7,7-5,5
Jackomo von der Bleichstrasse
5-5
Doc von der Teufelsbrücke
6,8,8,8-6,6,7

His bloodline also includes some of the most important names in the history of the breed, such as Benno vom Schwarzen Heide, Bea von der Teufelsbrücke, Chris vom Obergrombacher Schloss, Falko vom Grüntenblick, Vranjo vom Räuberweg, Imperator vom Haus Zschammer, Gringo vom Oberpfälzer Wald, Mambo von der Crossener Ranch, Filou vom Räuberweg, Balou vom Silberblick, Ben vom Langen Grund and Djuke vom Vilstaler Land, among many others.

It is also interesting to look at the genetic concentration in his parents. Orlando has, among others, 4-4 on Fax von Tengen and 5-5 on Cora vom Rösslesgarten, while Harley has 5,5-5 on Noris vom Grüntenblick.

All this helps to understand the concentration of certain important lines and ancestors behind Puma and his parents.

His participation at the ADRK Klubsieger 2017 is particularly significant. Puma won V1 in the Intermediate Class, while his brother Poker placed third. That year's show was won by Boom vom Cherniy Kumir, while other dogs such as Vitus vom Hause Neubrand and Hasko vom Kronenberg also reached the final after winning their classes.

Taken together, these results reflect a dog able to compete at the highest level in both conformation and work.

Puma as a stud

If his show career was extraordinary, it is probably in breeding that we find the true scale of Puma vom Wilden Westen.

Very few males pass on so consistently a balanced combination of breed type, anatomical quality, movement, character and working ability.

The importance of a great stud should not be measured only by the number of outstanding offspring he produces, but also by the ability of those offspring to keep passing on quality.

And this is precisely where Puma is particularly interesting.

His offspring include many dogs that have won some of the most important titles on the international scene.

The second generation: the legacy continues

But Puma vom Wilden Westen's influence does not end with his offspring.

Several of them are in turn proving to be breeding dogs of great quality, producing a second generation that continues to achieve outstanding results at national and international shows.

And this is one of the most interesting aspects of his legacy.

The true scale of a great stud is seen not only in the quality of his offspring, but in their ability to produce elite dogs in turn.

In Puma's case, this influence is already clearly visible.

Conclusion

To talk about Puma vom Wilden Westen is to talk about one of the studs that has done most to shape part of the modern Rottweiler over the last decade.

His extraordinary record would be enough to place him among the outstanding dogs of his generation. His true importance, however, lies not only in his own results but in what he has been able to pass on.

His offspring have won some of the most important titles on the international scene, combining top-level show results with working ability. Perhaps even more significant is that several of those offspring are also showing remarkable breeding ability.

Through them, Puma's influence appears again in a new generation of dogs that are already winning top titles, as well as results in IGP and ZTP.

For all these reasons, Puma vom Wilden Westen has earned his place among the most important and influential studs of the modern Rottweiler, and everything suggests that his legacy will continue to grow for many years to come.
